Moscow Ballet’s Swan Lake is coming to Nampa. The performance takes place in the John Brandt Performing Arts Theater for one night only, Tuesday Nov. 8. Tickets start at just $53 and are available for purchase through www.ictickets.com or by calling 208-468-5555.
Based on the German myth that became of the world’s most famous and beloved ballets in Moscow, Swan Lake is performed to the long-time cherished score by Pytor I. Tchaikovsky. The ballet features a moving sculpture garden where Russian passion governs in the statuesque bearing of the many male dancers, and the exquisite long lines of the women, all attacking each step with enviable Russian precision.
Swan Lake is a magical tale of a far off land and a bewitching spell where Princess Odette is kidnapped by von Rothbart, an evil sorcerer, who turns her into a swan. She is compelled to live at the lake under his curse. Only a true and pure love can break her free. Can Prince Siegfried, who has yet to choose a proper bride, fall in love with her, break the enchantment and restore Princess Odette to a beautiful maiden once again?
While the original version is more than four hours long, this staging has been artfully edited to just over two hours, and still runs the gamut of human emotion from elation to despair, purity to corruption and melancholy to joy.
Nampa Civic Center is excited to present this production as we believe human emotions and culture are best expressed through dance, music and the fine arts within our newly renamed John Brandt Performing Arts Theater.
